More happenings...

It has happened, I'm at a loss for words. For the past 35 years, I have been anything but "at a loss for words." I am trying to put together my grandfather's obituary. How in the world can I complete this task without taking up an entire newspaper? There are so many things that should be remembered, that should be eulogized and that should not be forgotten. How can I pick the best parts when my lifetime with this man was full of the "best parts?"

Since I can't take up an entire newspaper with my thoughts about this dear man, I'll have to leave it to the blog. But even with the entirety of the internet, I can't even capture all of the best memories, there are just too many... Summers in Hawaii, entire afternoons playing "blind man's tag" and grandpa being one of the most obvious cheaters on Earth. The tennis matches, the endless games of "horse," the constant cheering presence at all of our sporting events. Traipsing through Europe, grandpa ordering pomme frites at every turn. (Not that I really think he likes french fries that much, but he just liked the words). Also the constant thumb up, and "Ein Bier." Morning, noon and night, not that he really wanted a "beer" but just liked saying it. Quiet time up at the cabin, eating too much food, snowmobiling more hours than not. Grandpa picking out my wedding dress, telling me, "That is the one! Let's get it!" (What other Grandpa does that? Seriously!) And whiskey, oh the love of whiskey! The "happy birthday" singing. The "redneck comments," don't mess with Bobby Bob. The endless questions when I entered the social work profession. Not many of the questions were as to what I actually do, but whether or not there is enough security. Calling Ryan and telling him it's snowing, summer or spring, didn't matter. Always making sure to tell Ryan to "get to work." Then giggling, "Yeah right." Oh how I am going to miss the constant joking with all of us... The adoration of his family and his lack of fear about telling us about his love for us. Setting such an amazing example of a loving and fun marriage, Bob and Doll cornered the market in that category.

My brother and I were fortunate to be there at the end, helping grandpa transition to a place where he and my mom are celebrating the lives they've left behind. What a party that must be... Needless to say, the hole Grandpa left is huge, but the legacy he left is bigger. Rest in peace grandpa. You are going to need the rest because when the rest of us get up there, it won't likely be restful anymore! We miss you more than you can imagine!

Smarter than a 2nd grader?

I knew the day would come, I just didn't think it would be in the 2nd grade. Morgan is officially learning more than I did in high school... and she's in the 2nd grade.

Seriously, economic systems? Did I ever learn about economic systems? Apparently the International Baccalaureate program is no joke (and yes, I had to google how to spell "baccalaureate")!

A weekend of thanks!

How could I not be thankful for this little spunk? A lot of hikes in the foothills behind our house were had this weekend...

Another Kearney Thanksgiving down in the books! We celebrated with dear friend, the Glavins and had an absolutely great time... Another year of having so many things to be thankful for...

Ryan and the world's smallest dogs. Seriously, these two look like bears, but might be the sweetest dogs on Earth.

I was also thankful to have some Husky fans come over to watch Apple Cup with me... However, they left the gathering at 3rd quarter and I will forever blame them for the loss... I kid, thank you for bringing some purple and gold into this "Coug House" that I am currently a prisoner in. Aidan frequently asks me, "Why did you do that mommy? Why did you become a Husky? You wanted to be a Coug, right?" Always spoken in a devastated tone, it's similar to a tone that one would ask someone why they broke the law and ended up in prison. I find myself getting defensive, "Seriously, someday Aidan you'll understand, UW IS a good school." Aye, aye, aye.

Not many pictures were taken, always a sign that we were busy having fun, enjoying all that we have been blessed with!

10 YEARS!

As I am getting ready to put 2012 into book form, I realized I missed out on documenting our 10 YEAR wedding anniversary... And if it's not on the blog, it didn't happen, right? We headed back to Sun Valley, Idaho, for a weekend of great meals, mountain biking, laughs and relaxation. It was a fitting locale to celebrate our milestone wedding anniversary, since 11 years prior, I had begun giving the Ryan the "hard sell" as to why he should marry me someday, outside of River Run Lodge at Kelsey and Barry's wedding. You might be reading this and saying, "Oh no she didn't." Oh yes, she did. People, I had a list of why this guy shouldn't let this crazy catch go! Poor guy had no choice.

Most days I realize that I am the big winner in this marriage. If I had been out mountain biking by myself and had received a flat tire, sadly, it would be a long hike home and a trip to the bike store for a new one.

Ryan got me a new helmut because I have a HUGE Foster melon-head and he said my previous one made me look like I was wearing a party hat. See, the guy takes care of me!

The handsome mister after a loooonnngg but wonderful ride. (I'm referring to the bike ride, but that might also capture our marriage, loooonnnnggg being the days that I drive him loco.)

The Skene's helped us celebrate, and celebrate we did! Oh the FUN we have with Ryan and Heather. Cheers to great friends!! (And a trip to SV is just not complete without the big chair photo op).

Blue hued party goers.

The blondies back in their happy place.... Whiskey Jacques. It's also just not a trip to SV without a little live music!

Happy Anniversary Mr. Kearney!!!

Goings on...

Bookie's back!!! Oh thank goodness! If you don't know Bookie, he's our Elf who comes every holiday season and reports to Santa who's been good and who's been, well...interesting. Rumor has it, kids have leaned toward "interesting" rather than good recently, so I'm thinking Bookie might have needed to see it for himself...

Aidan wants to impress Bookie so much, he's made it his mission to give the little guy diabetes. Seriously, could he possibly put more "stuff" on those cookies? I'm glad Bookie will be taking some to the North Pole tonight, I don't think Aidan's teeth or energy level can handle one more gram of sugar.

What did the Kearney's do today? Played an ENDLESS game of Monopoly. Their perseverance was impressive!

And what did I do today? Take an ENDLESS test. Thankfully passed! In the testing center, I really wanted to suddenly barf all over that dang computer and have it short out, I was certain I was failing... I have found that with all the procrastinating I did while "studying," my celebrity gossip knowledge and has expanded in obscene ways. The amount of random and useless information I am currently storing in my pea brain could go down in some type of embarrassing record book.

Blondie Soldiers...

We interupted our usual beloved "Jammie Friday" for a play date with a family who has kids the exact ages as ours and luckily in the same classrooms this year! Morgan headed to their house for some girl time and the boys took over Casa de Kearn.

These two blonde kindergartners have been HILARIOUS! Talking non-stop, pledging "best friend-hood" multiple times, giggling, oh the giggling and spending the afternoon in pure make believe army man bliss. I met Sean's mom when both boys were in utero and we were slugging through pre-natal yoga. It's so fun to see this little friendships develop!

Aidan J., continued...

Aidan and Morgan have been teasing each other all day... Aidan brought out the big guns and put his thoughts on paper.

Whoa kid, easy with the insults... I guess I should be happy he is challenged in the insult department!

Aidan J.

Oh Aidan, how we love you so...

Somehow Aidan got ahold of the camera today. The word pride doesn't capture his feelings about getting a picture of commentators...

We had friends over for dinner tonight, someone partied a little too hard.

But Aidan managed to get this sweet shot of our first born, Byron Bay!

Please note the really tired dad/coach to the left of the table. And then take a gander at the even more tired clock gal. Those are my peeps, love them! Crazy, non brushed hair and all (Morgan's not Ryan's).

The big match up. I loved watching the offense guard the poop out of the defense. Yep, you heard it right, our team meant so much business on offense that we couldn't stand the thought of NOT guarding even though we should have been trying to score. I LOVE kindergarten basketball, nothing compares.

My two favorite guys. Again, if you need a giggle, kindergarten basketball is your answer.  The excitement, the hugging amongst teammates (mid play), the giggling (also mid play), the potty breaks, the grabbing the ball and just running (who knows to where), the looking to the mommys on the sideline for a thumbs up... absolutely nothing better!

Halloween 2012

Another fun halloween goes down in the history books! Our spider woman and ninja had a fantastic time, cruising around the neighborhood on hay bales in trailers. No pictures from the potluck or actual trick or treating. I might have been too busy chatting, I know, weird.

Blue candied tongue to go with her costume. Yes, we take things seriously around here.

Beware the ninja!

Seriously, ninja man doesn't mess around. Luckily, spider-woman can hold her own.

Artsy little posers we have... (Please disregard my dead plants).

Someone trying to outshine little brother? No, say it ain't so.

Even ninjas need kisses from mommy.

Roxy and Morgan! I volunteered to help out at Morgan's halloween party at school. Holy mac, I'm still sweaty from that. I don't know how teachers do it and Morgan has a pretty well mannered gaggle of classmates. In my 10 years as a social worker, I have dealt with some really, really intense situations. But I tell you what, nothing (not even being called into the hospital during the middle of the night) is as tiring as 24 2nd graders. The energy, the non-stop talking (I thought it was just Morgan), the energy (it bears repeating), the constant activity. Cheers to you teachers, there is no salary high enough.

Sporty Around These Parts!

Morgan had her last soccer game of the season and Aidan had his FIRST basketball game last Saturday. What a fun day, full of cheering!
Morgan is in U10 this year, playing against 4th graders! Word has it that kids in the North East end aren't getting enough vitamins or something because our team was teeny tiny compared to the girls they played this year. I think some might have been twice as tall as our little gal. But, like everything Morgan does, she was FEARLESS!

Look at that form! Makes a running mama proud!

I didn't get many good pictures of Aidan's game, it was early, very early! This week I'll be better and actually bring my camera. Darling doesn't quite capture just how cute this game was. There was lots of "traveling,"  a lot of hands raised for potty breaks, a lot of random running around in multiple directions and A LOT of enthusiasm!

Our little guy is number 8. Turns out 8 IS great! We are very proud of our little basketballer! He has decided he loves sports so much, he's now signed up for soccer in the spring. Yes, I'm officially a soccer mom, minus the mom jeans and minivan.

End of the season soccer party at Lucky 13. Now that Morgan is in U10, we had some new additions to our team. So much fun to get to know more girls (some of which are in our 'hood) and their parents. We are so lucky to be constantly surrounded by such good peeps.

Chloe and Morgan anxiously awaiting the medal ceremony!

High-fiving Coach Nick. He's the best, super encouraging and makes it all a lot of fun! He's been Morgan's "head" soccer coach, there is quite the coaching staff on Team Purple People Eaters, which makes for such a fun experience for all the girls.

My Ninja Cheerleader...

Aidan has ALWAYS gotten our money's worth out of his costume and this year is no different. Before I left for the Portland Marathon, he put this number on to say good bye to me!

But he wouldn't let me take his picture until I told him that, "Yes, I do believe I can win this race." He was really concerned that I wasn't believing in myself enough and felt the need to give a little extra pep talk. I now get why moms are so crazy about their boys, they are heart melters for sure.... Future girlfriends, daughter in law, I apologize right now... He's going to be a hard one to let go!

Kindergarten Play Time!

Aidan's kindergarten class is learning about "cooperation" and to show the parents just how good they are at this concept, they performed a play! Once again, if seeing this little performance didn't make you smile, we just might have to get you checked in somewhere. It was darling!

The wonderful Ms. Robison. Oh how we adore her so! She returned from teaching in South East Asia and we are so glad she did, she's wonderful!

Set designing crew! If we are friends on facebook, you may have heard me mention that Aidan informed one day after school that he was going to be riding a motorcycle over the audience and flipping in the air. You can imagine my surprise when I showed up to the play and found out this was not true and instead, he was a set designer. But isn't that the most amazing set you have ever seen? (It's the colorings behind the kids!) Flipping motorcycles or designing sets, we're proud regardless!!!

B*S*U Game!

Dunder Mifflin came through once again, as did Ryan's bowling skills. We recently had a company family outing with xpedx and there was a little friendly competition for some BSU tickets. Yes my friends, Ryan bowled a 180 to take the prize. And some people laugh when they hear he took a bowling class at WSU. Apparently it paid off people.
Black out game! (I know, the irony wasn't lost on this former college student!) But the real meaning was that BSU debuted new black jerseys, so fans were instructed to do the same. Aidan took it seriously!

Not bad little tickets!

I promise she had on a black coat at one point... But when you are dancing the ENTIRE game, a little body gets hot!

See what I mean?

A friendly neighbor gave Morgan some BSU playing cards that are apparently from last year because Morgan's wanna-be boyfriend Kellen Moore is in the pile. Oh this girl...

Putting a sticker on your face is always such a good idea at first...

Yep, in the distance, real Army men. Was Aidan excited when the cannon went off with each score? Do I need to even ask?

Aidan requested I take this picture and send to his friends at school, "because there is no way they'll believe that I really was here!!!!"

More laughing.

And cheering.

And being crazy!

I don't know why I don't have as many pics of Aidan, but he was right along side crazy-pants, joining in on the fun!
